I am going to aim to put selections out the night before going forward and with more rationale as we head towards Royal Ascot. I am finding I’m too busy during the day to get selections out and this is leading to late posts and a lack of rationale. This may mean that early – often bigger – prices can be found though you will likely miss out on best odds guaranteed, which tend to be available on-the-day.
I’ll aim to start this new system later today.
For now – here are today’s selections…
Horse Racing Selections – June 14
Chester
3.25 Hutchence 11/8 win
5.10 Treasure Time 3/1 (7/2 with 365) win
The new system of selecting the night before would have helped here as Hutchence’s price has halved since late yesterday. Hutchence will likely go off favourite being a son of Frankel and on a moderate opening mark and seems to do well on more difficult ground.
Treasure Timeis one of only two horses out for trainer Haggas at Chester today and runs out of a good stall (4). Also, likely to go off favourite and we may have got a better price last night! Argh!
York
4.10 High Fibre 13/2 each way (5 places)
4.10 Reach 7/1 each way (5 places)
Reach finished third at York last month after a 286-day break but will be good for the run and at 7/1 is a solid each way shout with Jo Mason taking the ride.
High Fibreis also in the same race and at a similar price but with 5 places widely available, I’m fine to select two this time out. Did well from a wide draw last time and there’s a lot of potential – rarely races though (which can be a positive or a negative!).
Market Rasen
8.05 Coilrock 11/2 each way
Beaten into second when switched to cheekpieces last time out with a lot of backing – comes back at a low weight so decent chance.
Multiple try (not official) – you could attempt the 2 Chester and Market Rasen selections as a very small (0.2 pts, for example) trixie try.
Golf Selections with Update – US Open
On the X social account, I suggested putting up Bryson DeChambeau as a first round leader yesterday. He placed – 33/1 each way was available.
Bryson and Collin Morikawa have been selected as each-way win selections – DeChambeau is tied fourth (two shots back) and Morikawa is tied 16th (4 shots back) so all to play for with three rounds to go!
Bonus Selection…
If you are looking for some interesting longshots heading into the weekend who could finish in the top 4, here are a couple to try (go small each way)…
Pavon 80/1 each way (5 places)
Fleetwood 40/1 each way (5 places)
Remember – this is being played at Pinehurst No. 2 – a very tough course where you can easily lose a lead, especially if you have a bad day. Good golfers yesterday had nightmares – including Hovland!
The winner on this course in 1999 (Payne Stewart) only finished on -1; and in 2014 (last time played there), although the winner (Martin Kaymer) finished on -9, second place was back on -2!
Good morning – apologies for the disruption in service the last few days. I’ve been abroad and out of sync with time and Internet connectivity. I am back now so hope to get in the groove ahead of Royal Ascot. I am also going to start including a bit of rationale, where possible.
Let’s start with some selections for today’s horse racing and the upcoming US Open Golf.
Horse Racing Selections – June 10
Carlisle
4.20 Ring of Gold 5/1 each way (4 places)
4.55 Hostelry 5/1 each way (4 places)
Both of these horses are being jockeyed by in-form rider Joanna Mason today – she’s had success with Hostelry before and Ring of Gold has been 2nd many times now. I think it’s worth getting on these.
Windsor
7.40 Dusky Lord 20/1 each way
Money coming in for this one (was 28/1) – but probably still worth considering. Well handicapped against last winning mark so 20/1 and above looks generous.
8.10 Mamdoh 6/1 each way (4 places)
Handicap mark is out of whack with potential so worth an each way punt in an open race.
Golf Selections – US Open
We have a major this week so let’s take a look at a few options…
The favourite is Scottie Scheffler, unsurprisingly, but there’s no real value at 4/1. Other services may suggest and dance about if he wins but that’s no fun or skill in that! I won’t be selecting him.
Collin Morikawa 16/1 (10 places)
We can take Scottie on with Morikawa – not least as he came close at the Memorial this weekend and comes into the major with form. Try to get the 10 places – if you can’t, there are 6 places for slightly higher odds about.
Bryson DeChambeau 16/1 (10 places)
Another solid 10-place option is LIV golfer Bryson. He was close at the last major and can easily rip through birdies. This course may suit him well so he must be worth considering at this price.
