Monday Horse Racing Selections – 18 May 2026

A quick look back at the PGA Championship before we move forward. Mixed feelings — Rahm and Schauffele both placed and we very nearly broke even on the week, which in a Major field of 150+ players is far from a disaster. Rahm in particular looked like he had the tools to win it but couldn’t quite close the gap on Rai down the stretch. A few things went against us but the analysis was sound and the model identified two of the players who genuinely contended.

On to more positive things — the CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch starts Thursday. We’ll have our full data-backed analysis and selections published Wednesday. Watch this space.

For today, two selections across the UK and Ireland evening cards.

Counting Cards — 3:00 Carlisle — 8/1 each way, 4 places (1pt) Back down to 5f and racing off a mark of 70 which looks very workable. Raced too keenly last time at Musselburgh but the headgear comes off today which should help significantly. Trainer Edward Bethell has an excellent record at Carlisle and that’s a major positive. Each-way chance with four places on offer.

Syzygy — 6:50 Roscommon — 9/4 (1pt) A standout on the card. Won a hat-trick last season including over a similar race at the Curragh, and her performance in the Irish Lincoln this season marks her out as the one to beat here. Back up in distance which suits. Should be there or thereabouts — worth ensuring best odds guaranteed in case of any market drift before the off.

Saturday Afternoon Horse Racing Selections — 16 May 2026

Three selections across the afternoon and evening cards today, with a win play at Newbury and each-way value at Newmarket and Doncaster.

Albert Einstein — 3:10 Newbury — 9/4 WIN (1pt) The Moore/O’Brien combination always demands respect, and Albert Einstein has the form to back it up. Twice successful at 6f on good ground, he stepped up to 7f last month and ran a cracker — third of eight behind Alparslan, beaten just 1¾ lengths as the 9/4 favourite. Drop back to his optimum 6f trip looks like the move that unlocks a win today.

Silver Ghost — 2:50 Newmarket — 4/1 EW 4 places (1pt each way) Two wins at 7f on good ground and a solid course-and-distance run earlier this month — third of six behind Billyjoh, beaten 2¾ lengths at 7/1 on good to firm. Proven at the track, proven at the trip. At 4/1 each-way with four places on offer, the value is there.

Lorna B — 6:38 Doncaster — 5/1 EW 4 places (1pt each way) Three wins across good, good to soft and all-weather surfaces at 6f. Latest run was September last year when fifth of 16 at Thirsk at 9/1, beaten 2¾ lengths behind Eternal Sunshine. Seasonal return to watch, and 5/1 each-way with four places on offer is a fair price.

All selections 1pt unless stated. Each-way = win and place. Bet Responsibly — 18+

York Dante Festival Friday Selections: 40/1 Each-Way Value, Proven Course Form and a Royal Ascot Contender (May 15, 2026)

The final day of the York Dante Festival brings three selections across the card — a proven course performer at a solid price, a big-priced each-way play with the draw in her favour, and a potentially special horse heading towards Royal Ascot.

The low draw bias has been a consistent theme all week at York and today’s selections account for that — stalls 4, 5 and 6 across the three races.

2:55 — HAVE SECRET | 10/1 | 5 places | 1pt each-way | Stall 6

Five wins on good to soft ground, a victory at Pontefract last month and a third place in this exact race earlier this season. Have Secret arrives with genuine York form and conditions that suit. Stall 6 is ideal given this week’s draw bias and five places at 10/1 makes this a well-grounded each-way selection. The form is backed up, the track suits and the draw works in her favour.

1pt each-way @ 10/1 — 5 places

4:40 — NUEVO SLOVO | 40/1 | 5 places | 1pt each-way | Stall 4

The standout each-way value selection of the day. Well handicapped off 91, returning to 5 furlongs which looks the right trip, and drawing stall 4 — the perfect position given this week’s low draw bias at York.

The stable switch to Simon Pearce is the risk but also the opportunity — fresh horses for new trainers often run well and Pearce needs a winner. At 40/1 with five places the each-way mathematics are excellent. If the ability is there, she should comfortably outrun her odds.

1pt each-way @ 40/1 — 5 places

5:15 — PORTCULLIS | Evens | WIN | 2pts win | Stall 5 | William Buick

A Frankel offspring, half-brother to Crown Estate, carrying the colours of the King and Queen with William Buick in the saddle. Portcullis stormed home at Newmarket recently and today looks like the next stop on what could be a very exciting season.

The potential destination is the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot — and a convincing win today would announce him as a genuine contender for one of the summer’s most prestigious races. Evens reflects the market’s confidence. The pedigree, the form, the jockey and the occasion all point the same way.

2pts win @ Evens

Total today: 4pts staked across three selections. For live updates follow on X and Bluesky. The AI Golf Bot’s Min Woo Lee is joint leading the PGA Championship at 55/1 after round one — full card on the Twister Tipster Substack, free to subscribe at the link below.

York Dante Festival Thursday (May 14, 2026) Picks — Three Selections Across the Card

Three selections at York today across the Dante Festival card… sign up for regular golf and horse racing picks.

2:20 — Hammer the Hammer | 8/1 | 6 places | 1pt each-way

An Irish raider that the market may be underestimating. Better than handicap level on his best form, he showed genuine speed at Royal Ascot last year before connections dropped him back in trip. The return to 5 furlongs looks spot on. The key flag here is a recent wind operation — horses returning from wind surgery are consistently underrated by the market and if that has resolved his breathing issues this is a completely different proposition at 8/1.

The one caveat is stall 13 — not ideal given the low draw bias at York this week. We’re taking the risk on the form and the wind op rather than worrying about the draw. At 8/1 with 6 places the each-way value justifies it.

1pt each-way @ 8/1 — 6 places

2:55 — Cerulean Bay | 6/1 | 5 places | 1pt each-way

This one ticks almost every box. Was below his best in the first half of last season but improved significantly as the year went on — that trajectory heading into this campaign is encouraging. Handles courses with bends well, which York suits perfectly, and crucially draws a nice stall in 6.

The clincher is the course form — he finished second here over the same distance last year. He knows the track, handles the trip, and arrives in improving form with a favourable draw. Solid each-way proposition at 6/1.

1pt each-way @ 6/1 — 5 places

4:05 — Action | 11/2 | 3 places | 1pt each-way

The Aidan O’Brien angle alone commands respect — his runners at big meetings carry stable confidence and are rarely without a chance. But there’s genuine form to back this up. Action has performed well in Group 1 company previously, including against Bow Echo who went on to win the 2,000 Guineas, and is closely related to Lambourn, the 2025 Derby winner. The class is not in question.

The key update is the tongue tie being removed today after issues last time out. Tongue tie removal is one of the most consistently positive signals in racing — if that was restricting him previously, today could be a different horse entirely. Stall 7 is a decent draw with no concerns given the track bias.

The only note is that 3 places at 11/2 makes this more of a win-orientated play than the others — factor that in to your expectations.

1pt each-way @ 11/2 — 3 places

Total exposure today: 6pts staked across three each-way bets.

Saturday Picks: Victoria Cup, Haydock Double + a 33/1 Each-Way Punt – Saturday May 10, 2026 | Ascot & Haydock

It’s been a tough week on the P&L — the golf has punished us thus far and Chester didn’t play ball — but Saturdays are made for bouncing back! Four selections today across Ascot and Haydock, including a serious each-way play in the Victoria Cup and a big-priced alternative that could pay for the week if it lands a place.

🏇 VICTORIA CUP — ASCOT, 2:25PM

This is the marquee race of the day and we’re splitting the Victoria Cup between two plays.

TRIBAL CHIEF — 11/2 EACH WAY (6 PLACES) — 1PT

The overnight money has been pointing firmly towards Tribal Chief and it’s not hard to see why. Billy Loughnane takes the ride, which is about as encouraging a booking as you can get in this division right now — he’s riding at a different level to most. The horse itself is a natural closer who loves to pick off rivals late in the day, and the draw is very much in his favour. Coming back to seven furlongs in trip could prove the key — he shaped well in the Lincoln on his return and this looks a logical next step. With six places on offer, an each-way interest at 11/2 looks very fair value. This is the banker of the day.

SO DARN HOT — 33/1 EACH WAY (6 PLACES IF AVAILABLE) — 1PT

At 33/1 this is unashamedly a punt, but it’s one grounded in solid reasoning. The horse has dropped 5lbs since his last winning mark and the ground conditions today should be right up his street. It is not a million miles away from his best form and in a competitive handicap like the Victoria Cup, horses at this price regularly hit the frame. With six places being paid out, a 33/1 shot at a fraction of the odds for a place represents exactly the type of each-way value that can transform a Saturday. Only take this if your bookmaker is paying six places — check before you play.

🏇 HAYDOCK, 1:15PM

TELLHERTHENAME — 9/4 WIN — 2PT

Dan Skelton knows how to place a horse and Tellherthename has been dropped to a mark of 133 which looks very workable on the evidence of recent runs. The going at Haydock today should suit and this looks like a confident, straightforward selection. Two points win — no each-way frills needed at this price.

🏇 HAYDOCK, 3:05PM

JEDDAAL — 2/1 WIN — 2PT

Ed Walker has this horse primed and ready. Jeddaal is operating off a mark that flatters the handicapper rather than the horse — it is genuinely quick and has the ability to dominate from the front or close from just off the pace. On a flat, fair track like Haydock there should be no excuses today. Two points win, straightforward confidence play.

Chester Cup Friday Selections – May 8, 2026

A full card at Chester today and two selections catching the eye ahead of what should be a busy weekend of action.

3:05 Chester Cup — Zanndabad (8/1 EW, 5 places)

Zanndabad shaped like the unluckiest horse in the race last time out. Drawn in stall 10, he still managed to finish third behind Zoffee — a performance that would have won most renewals if he’d had a clear passage. Chester’s tight, turning track actually suits hold-up horses who can be produced late, and with a cleaner passage expected today, he looks well-handicapped at the top of the market. Each way at 8/1 with five places on offer is exactly the kind of value we can go for though.

3:40 Chester — Miraculous (9/1 EW, 4 places)

Tim Easterby has a fantastic record with horses stepping back up in class after confidence-boosting runs at smaller tracks, and Miraculous fits that profile well. He showed improved form at Catterick and the handicapper hasn’t fully caught up yet. Four each-way places at 9/1 gives plenty of margin, and at that price he’s firmly in the mix.

Both bets are 1pt each way. Saturday promises to be the big day with Ascot’s Victoria Cup — full selections and picks landing here and on the Substack in the morning.

1,000 Guineas Selections – 3 May 2026

The first fillies’ Classic of the season is here, and today’s 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket looks a fascinating puzzle. Nineteen runners are due to go to post over the Rowley Mile, with the ground described as good to firm.

For Twister Tipster, this looks like a race where the obvious one may simply be the right one — but there is also a very tempting each-way angle at a bigger price.

Selection 1: Precise — 7/4 win

Precise is the win selection.

She was a high-class two-year-old and brings proper Group 1 form into this. Her Fillies’ Mile win over this course and distance last autumn is the standout piece of evidence: she beat Venetian Lace by 3¼ lengths and looked every inch a filly with Classic quality.

The big question in a race like this is whether you want to take a short price in a 19-runner Classic. Usually, that can be dangerous. But Precise has already shown she handles Newmarket, stays the mile, and has the class edge on what we’ve seen so far.

There are dangers everywhere, but at 7/4, she still looks the most solid winner in the race.

Precise — 7/4 win

Selection 2: The Prettiest Star — 12/1 each-way, 4 places

The each-way pick is The Prettiest Star at 12/1, taking the four places.

She is lightly raced, open to improvement, and already has strong Newmarket form. She won well on debut at Nottingham before finishing a clear second in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes over 7f at Newmarket, beaten just half a length by Zanthos.

That Rockfel run makes her interesting here. She travelled like a smart filly, kept finding, and shaped as though the step up to a mile could suit. The racecard comments also suggest she is likely to stay and that there should be more to come.

At the prices, she makes plenty of appeal as an each-way play. She doesn’t need to beat Precise for the bet to pay — she just needs to run into the frame, and with four places available, she looks the right value alternative.

The Prettiest Star — 12/1 each-way, 4 places

1,000 Guineas

Precise — 7/4 win
The Prettiest Star — 12/1 each-way, 4 places

As always, selections are for interest and opinion. 18+

2,000 Guineas & Kentucky Derby – May 3, 2026 Horse Racing Selections

What a week it’s been! Four winners from the last seven horse racing bets, running P&L at +12.17pts since re-starting tracking — and today we’ve got two of the biggest races in the racing calendar. Here are my four picks.

2000 Guineas — Newmarket 3:35

Distant Storm — 9/2 Each Way (4 places) My main pick of the day. Charlie Appleby has won three of the last five Guineas and has trained this horse specifically for today off the back of some impressive performances last year. Fresh, ready, and in the hands of one of the best trainers in the business for this race.

Needle Match — 18/1 Each Way (4 places) The draw out of stall one is a negative but I’m not put off at this price. Tom Marquand takes the ride which is a real positive, and he ran well here last year. At 18/1 each way this is a proper each way punt — if it fires it’s a big day.

Kentucky Derby — Churchill Downs 11:57 (BST)

Commandment — 4/1 The standout pick of the day. Four wins on the bounce, loves Churchill Downs, loves the distance, and a decent draw. Every box ticked — this is the one I want most.

Danon Bourbon — 12/1 Each Way (4 places) The outside play. Overnight money has come in which is always encouraging. Japanese-trained horse who has performed brilliantly at home — the question is whether he can replicate it on American soil. We think he can. And we are in the home of bourbon after all!
