Good morning Cheltenham Festival horse racing lovers!
After an amazing day 1 where everything was landing, we were brought back down to earth a little yesterday. Seconditis kicked in with Act of Innocence and Final Demand both finishing runners-up with Vanillier also in the top 3. Majborough was the surprise of the festival by jumping like a fridge and the least said about the last two races, the better!
The good thing is we can go again today and I’m more confident about day 3 so let’s go…
Horse Racing Selections – March 11
Cheltenham Festival – Day 3
1.20 Mares’ Novices
Already selected Bambino Fever – which can now be found at Evens if you fancy another half go. I think Bambino is vulnerable so let’s go with an each-way selection as well. I like James Bowen, who is having a great festival, on Carrigmoornaspruce – if you can get 4 places each way (widely available), take the 8/1!
2.00 Jack Richards
Already selected Jordans Cross at 10/1 as our antepost each way – now shortened to 4/1 favourite so fingers crossed, this is a good sign. We should have a back-up plan – I like the form of Rebecca Curtis’s Star Wars-inspired horse Ben Solo which is well under the radar. At 28/1 and 5 places each way, worth a play – even if small.
2.40 Mares’ Hurdle
This looks a poor race this year without Lossiemouth – anyway, it’s happening and we already have Wodhooh selected at 5/4 at antepost (now Evens). I’m loath to select something else but Jade de Grugy under the in-form Paul Townend can’t be ignored. At 2/1, I’d say this one may shorten and even go off favourite by 2.40 so let’s hedge…
3.20 Stayers’ Hurdle
A chess match of a puzzle this one – anyone can win it! We’re on Honesty Policy at 4/1 – since drifted to 9/1. I’d advice going again here, if you can, as I’m a tad confused but perhaps there’s an issue we are not aware of. We will play a second horse for insurance and that’s Bob Olinger at 8/1 each way. Why? Bob is a Cheltenham winner and veteran and if this race is slow and complicated, he has the ability to pick up the pieces. He’s done it before and is a legend around these parts. Would be a shame if he won and we were not involved!
4.00 Ryanair Chase
We have already selected Jonbon (shortened back to 4/1). If Jonbon can finally crack Cheltenham like he does every other track, he will have a great chance to get one over the mighty Fact to File, who is drifting in the market. We must take on Fact to File here – not least as prominent gambling firms are boosting his price.
A decent each way chance is JPR One, as selected before, which is currently 40/1 and could be value here.
4.40 Pertemps
We previously selected Supremely West at 8/1(!) – now as short as 7/2 so well done, to us! Even more celebrations if he wins!
The insurance pick is Bold Endeavour at 7/1 each way with 6 places. I like the James Bowen angle and he’s won in a range of tough races.
5.20 Kim Muir
We already have Jeriko Du Reponet at 4/1 with our anteposts. You can get 9/2 this morning if you fancy another 1/2 a pop.
The second pick here is Waterford Whispers at 4/1 – a win bet as I think one of these two horses will take this one for Mr J P McManus on his birthday week!
That’s your lot – no craziness with the selections there as I want to ensure we get good stuff back today after a relatively poor day 2!
Be sensible and see you on the other side – have fun. 18+ etc.
*Don’t forget to sign your email up on the right hand side of the twistertipster.com blog to get alerts as soon as this page is published so you never miss a selection. After Cheltenham, we will have picks for the Aintree festival including the Grand National coming up and we look forward to the start of the British and Irish flat season!
